There is something so uplifting about the vivid colours and delicate shapes of the petals and leaves that mix and match in height and shape. But the garden needn't be the only place to enjoy these beautiful colour schemes. Floral prints are making a comeback in interior decoration this year and there are now a huge variety of bold prints and pretty, delicate designs for inside.
For some time now interior designers have favoured very neutral, some might say bland, interiors. The mood has changed now and colour and print, texture and even organic shapes are making a comeback.
There are plenty of ways you can use florals and whatever type of style you already have in your home, there will be something to suit it. Whether you would describe your home as minimal, country, urban or a little bit of everything, you can use flowers to bring a room to life.
If you want to make a statement just go for one key object or piece of furniture in a room to cover with flowers. A colourful design on a large sofa will really make an impact, particularly if you set it against a muted background on the walls and floors. Or perhaps you already have a large, plain sofa, in which case you could recover an old second-hand chair that you can pick up quite reasonably from a charity shop with a really bold, opulent design.
Elsewhere, a scattering of clashing floral cushions can work well together, or simply cover one wall in a room with a pretty, floral motif print wallpaper. If you don't want to go the whole hog, frame a large sheet of wallpaper and hang it on the wall to sit with it for a while and see how it feels.
For a more subtle, delicate look, try out a few pieces of patterned china, mixed and matched in a similar colour scheme to work together as an artistic display.
Just remember that larger, really bold designs work at their best on their own and where possible choose the background colour of the floral pattern to blend in with the paint colour of your room and you really can't go wrong. And if you're still not sure, just cut back some of those boarders and put a showy bunch of the best of this summers blooms into a couple of vases and you'll soon see what a difference flowers can make to your home. |
