In the living room...
Mellow yellow is instantly mood-boosting and very on-trend right now. Use it as a natural, warming accent colour. Guard against draughts: put vinyl strips round the edges of doors. Seal the bottom of external doors with a draught excluder. Squeeze clear flexible sealant between the floorboards and the skirting. For older-style windows get secondary glazing kits.

In a hallway with lots of wood and wicker and natural textures take a plain white wall... and paint it cerise. The rich, vibrant effect will be amazing. If you’re not bold enough to commit to a whole wall then try an alcove or perhaps paint cube-style box shelves fixed up at intervals along a wall.
