Make your House a Cosy Home

Everyone appreciates coming into a room that invites you to relax. It's wonderfully soothing after a stressful day or when the weather is rainy or gloomy. But creating that mood doesn't have to be time consuming or expensive. Following these easy and inexpensive ideas will make your home cosy, inviting, and relaxing for your family, and your guests.

Cosy Home

Now This Is Living (Room)!
The living room is the place where you sit as a family and entertain guests, so you want to create a particularly welcoming atmosphere there. Soft fabrics and warm colours are instantly soothing: fleece, velvet, chenille, or satin. There are plenty of cheap throws and cushions in such fabric, which you can creatively drape over furniture and chairs.

If you have the space..
Create a reading area in one corner of the room. A comfortable chair, a floor lamp and a small table books and snacks are all you need to create a cosy space for yourself. A decadent footstool or ottoman would make a nice touch.

Got a competitive streak?
A designated game area invites a lively social atmosphere. Arrange some chairs around a table with chess, draughts or backgammon ready to play, and let the games begin!

A Soothing Sanctuary
More than any other room, your bedroom is a space of your very own; make it your sanctuary, with cosy, comforting fabrics. Little decorative touches, such as plants, candles or even scents will go a long way to creating that soothing atmosphere you are looking for.
If your bedroom is large enough, create a private reading area here, too. A comfy chair and a place to stack books and magazines are all you need, and with a dedicated reading area you will find you get around to those interesting articles you have been intending to read much more quickly.

Luxurious Loo
Put some effort into the toilet. Although it is a functional room, some slight embellishments make it a much nicer place to be. Bring nature in there with some houseplants or flowers, create a feeling of space and light with large mirrors and tactful lighting and scented candles or potpourri will add a pleasant fragrance to the room.
There are a few other touches that can go a long way toward making your bath more inviting. A bath pillow and a basket of magazines might be welcome during those long soaks in the tub. A showerhead with variable sprays is another little indulgence that family and guests alike are sure to appreciate. Finally, invest in some thick, fluffy towels to wrap up in prolonging the indulgence just a little bit longer.
