What's hot ..
Get your coat
Number one on the list is the coat, which should be a striking long, belted affair. Think details: so look for a coat that has interesting buttons, stitching or belt detail.
Cashmere
Once upon a time cashmere was outrageously expensive. But now, with high-street stores producing beautiful, well-priced pieces, you can afford to invest in a piece, or two. or three.
Pregnant pause
If you're expecting during winter (the best time to be!), then layer your look with some great outfits such as a lacy twin-set in chocolate with the flippy knee-length skirt in soft pink tweed, for a feminine work outfit. You'll be comfortable as well as keeping with the trends.
It's a wrap
The ubiquitous wrap dress is still going strong. If the original Diane Von Furstenburg dress is out of your price range, then take a look at the many high-street versions around. Don't just stick to black: try geometric prints and forest greens, deep reds and navy blue for a change. Team with this season's new soft leather boots and you're set to go.
Work it out
There's no excuse for piling on the pounds this winter, with several gorgeous workout outfits around. The gym never looked so enticing!
What's not ..
Think outside the box
If an outfit can make a model look fat, then you know not to try it. Designers have sent models down the runway with heavily pleated skirts and this look may not be for you. Avoid the bulge: if you do want to wear pleats, choose one that is more subtle and drapes softly around your hips.
Sling it back
Those sexy sling backs may have been great for summer and autumn, but they're a no-no during winter. And don't even think of teaming them with tights. Try a soft ballet-style slipper instead.
Don't fake it
Yes, we know that the summer was a joke, so it was excusable to use a fake tan. But during winter, you'll just look orange and out of place. If you must have a winter glow, try mixing your fake tan with some moisturiser - the coverage will be more sheer. And invest in a highlighter - it's a holiday in a bottle.
No more boho
All you would-be Sienna's - step away from that hippie skirt!
The look for winter is tailored, tweed and sharp contrasting black and white outfits. If you really can't bear to give up your bohemian air, try investing in unusual earrings, belts or handbags.
